Breed: Basset Bleu de Gascogne
Breed Group: Hound
Appearance: A powerful, medium sized hound with a smooth coat. Lively but sensible and wise, possessing an excellent nose and a rich deep voice. Originally bred to hunt small game. Bold and affectionate, can be a little reserved at times. Good with children. Requires a considerable amount of exercise and only light grooming. An approximate lifespan of around 10 to 12 years.
Head: A wedge shaped head, not too wide, with a domed skull. Nose black with wide nostrils.
Eyes: Dark brown in colour, oval in shape with a gentle, sad expression.
Ears: Ears to reach the tip of the nose when drawn forward, set on below the eye line and ending in a point.
Mouth: Strong jaws with a regular scissor bite. Lips to be black and slightly drooping to cover the lower jaw.
Neck: A slightly arched and rather long neck.
Forequarters: Strongly boned, straight or half crooked forelegs. Well laid and muscled shoulders.
Body: Long, strong back with well rounded ribs and a deep chest. Short, strong loin with a slight arch.
Hindquarters: Hindquarters to be strong and muscular with slightly bent stifles and well let down hocks.
Feet: Strong feet, oval in shape with black pads and nails.
Tail: Tail broad at the base, tapering to a point, carried sickle fashion.
Gait movement: Strong drive from the hindquarters with a balanced and easy stride.
Coat: Short, dense and not too fine.
Colour: White base with required black and tan markings. Some hounds can be completely mottled, but always have required tan markings.
Height: from 30 to 38cm (Dogs) 30 to 38cm (Bitches)
