Breed: Basset Fauve De Bretagne
Breed Group: Hound
Appearance: A hound of medium size and moderate length with a harsh, dense, rough-coat. Active and hardy, possessing a good nose. Originally bred to hunt hares and rabbits. Cheerful, friendly and amiable, but independent. Good with children. Requires a considerable amount of exercise and moderate grooming. An approximate lifespan of around 12 to14 years.
Head: Head of medium length with a moderately domed skull and slightly arched foreface. Black or very dark nose.
Eyes: Dark or hazel in colour, slightly oval in shape with a lively expression.
Ears: Length of ear to extend to the nose when drawn forward, folding inwards ending in a point. Set on approximately level with the eye.
Mouth: Strong jaws with a complete scissor bite.
Neck: Rather short and muscular.
Forequarters: Well boned, straight or slight crooked forelegs with strong pasterns.
Body: Level back with well rounded ribs and a deep, wide chest.
Hindquarters: Hindquarters strong and muscular with well bent stifles. Well let down hocks with good angulation.
Feet: Firm, hard pads and short nails.
Tail: Tail broad at the base, tapering to a point, carried sickle fashion.
Gait movement: Strides out well with a quick rhythm.
Coat: Very harsh, dense and flat. Never long or woolly.
Colour: Fawn, gold-wheaten or red wheaten. White spot on chest permissible.
Height: from 32 to 38cm (Dogs) 32 to 38cm (Bitches)
