Breed: Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit)
Breed Group: Hound
Appearance: A short-legged, compact hound with a harsh, rough coat and thick undercoat. Originally bred for flushing out hares and rabbits. Capable, strong and active with a good voice. Willing, happy and outgoing, not easily agitated. Good with children. Requires a considerable amount of exercise and moderate grooming. An approximate lifespan of around 12 to 14 years.
Head: Head of medium length and not too wide with a strong, well developed under jaw. Nose large and black with wide nostrils.
Eyes: Large eyes, dark in colour, with a friendly expression.
Ears: Ears set on low, length to extend to the end of the nose when drawn forward; folding inwards, ending in an oval shape.
Mouth: Strong jaws with a complete scissor bite.
Neck: Strong, long and robust neck, carrying the head proudly.
Forequarters: Straight well boned forelegs with strong, slightly sloping pasterns. Clean, sloping shoulders with elbows close to the body.
Body: Medium length of back with a slight arch over strong loins and a deep chest.
Hindquarters: Hindquarters strong and muscular with a good bend of stifle. Short, well angulated hocks and well defined second thigh.
Feet: Tightly padded but not too long with short but strong nails.
Tail: High set tail of medium length, carried like the blade of a sabre.
Gait movement: Elastic, free and easy paces with great drive from the hindquarters.
Coat: Rough, harsh and long with a thick undercoat. Hounds should be shown untrimmed.
Colour: White with any combination of lemon, orange, tricolour or grizzle markings.
Height: from 33 to 38cm (Dogs) 33 to 38cm (Bitches)
