Breed: Glen of Imaal Terrier
Breed Group: Terrier
Appearance: A medium sized, agile dog with a medium length topcoat, harsh in texture, and a soft undercoat. Originally bred to hunt and kill foxes. Active, courageous, calm and loyal. Good with children if raised with them. Requires a moderate amount of exercise and a moderate amount of grooming. An approximate lifespan of around 12 to 14 years.
Head: Head reasonably long and wide. Muzzle tapering to black nose.
Eyes: Eyes of medium size, round in shape and brown in colour.
Ears: Ears small, rose or half pricked when alert, thrown back when at rest.
Mouth: Strong jaws with a complete scissor bite.
Neck: Neck very muscular and of moderate length.
Forequarters: Shoulders broad, muscular and well laid back. Forelegs short, bowed and well boned.
Body: Deep bodied and longer in length than height, well sprung ribs. Chest strong and wide.
Hindquarters: Hindquarters well muscled, and strong with good thighs and good bend of stifle.
Feet: Feet compact, strong with rounded pads.
Tail: Customarily docked.
Gait movement: Ground covering, free and effortless movement.
Coat: Topcoat of medium length, and harsh in texture with a soft undercoat.
Colour: Blue, brindle and wheaten (all shades).
Height: from 35 to 36cm (Dogs) 35 to 36cm (Bitches)
