Breed: Italian Spinone
Breed Group: Gundog
Appearance: A large, solid dog with a tough, thick, wiry coat. Originally bred for retrieving game and tracking. Very hardy, faithful, intelligent and affectionate. Good with children. Requires a considerable amount of exercise and a moderate amount of grooming, although regular washing of beard and whiskers is required to keep them clean and sweet smelling. An approximate lifespan of around 12 to 14 years.
Head: A long head, skull flat with gently sloping, slightly rounded sides. A large spongy nose.
Eyes: Eyes large and fairly round. Colour; deep yellow in white, and white and orange; ochre in brown roans.
Ears: Ears long and triangular in shape and slightly rounded at tip.
Mouth: Strong jaws with a complete scissor bite.
Neck: Neck strong, muscular and fairly short.
Forequarters: Straight forelegs with strong oval bone and well defined tendons. pasterns slightly sloping. Shoulders strong, well muscled and well laid back.
Body: Length equal to height at withers. A slightly sloping top line from withers to well muscled loin. Chest broad, open and well let down. Well sprung ribs.
Hindquarters: Thighs long, broad, muscular and strong. Hocks well let down.
Feet: Forefeet round and compact, Hind feet slightly oval. Arched toes with strong, arched nails. Colour according to coat colour.
Tail: Customarily docked.
Gait movement: A free and relaxed movement.
Coat: Coat tough, thick, slightly wiry. Eyebrows have long stiff hair. Moustache and beard to chin.
Colour: White, white with orange markings; solid white peppered orange, white with brown markings, white speckled with brown (brown roan), with or without large brown markings.
